The shoreline strip is the last filter for runoff before it enters the lake.\u00a0 It is also the last buffer against waves and erosion if it is made up of flowering plants, trees and shrubs.<\/p>\r\n<p>A lush shoreline strip imparts a natural character to the environment, and increases property values.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/banderiveraine.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Bande-riveraine-depliant.pdf\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Leaflet: Plantation et entretien d&#8217;une bande riveraine (FR)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\r\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Protection of the shoreline and its watershed<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>Regeneration of the shoreline<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>The Association du lac Mercier is aware of the importance of the problem of erosion around the lake, and the need to improve the quality of shore. During the summer of 2010, the town of Mont-Tremblant has inspected the shore\u00a0 and make recommendations so that each owner complies with the new regulations on the shoreline, adopted in January 2009 (Regulation 2008-102).<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.villedemont-tremblant.qc.ca\/public_upload\/files\/citoyen\/urbanisme\/renaturalisation.pdf?v=53972\">Municipal regulations on protection of the shoreline (FR)<\/a><\/strong><br \/><\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/legisquebec.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/ShowDoc\/cr\/Q-2,%20r.%2035\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Gouvernement du Qu\u00e9bec: Protection Policy for Lakeshores<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Where shoreline regeneration is required, some native plants are particularly successful in naturalization of shorelines. These are pioneer plants well adapted to our climatic\u00a0conditions, including ease of reproduction and resistance to manipulation.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Some good choices for this purpose are: alder, dogwood, sweet gale, the vine virgin, willow and spirea shrub with large leaves.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Hereunder are the pictures of a few varieties that are recommended: \u00a0\u201cMyrica gale\u201d also called \u201cSweet gale\u201d, growing 1 meter high, very resistant, tolerates being flooded during long periods and spreads 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The Bayberry Balsam is also called &#8220;wood-feels-good&#8221;, meaning its generic name besides &#8220;fragrance.&#8221; This shrub reaching 1 m high spreads\u00a0very easily (seeds), is well adapted to our climate, may tolerate prolonged flooding and grows in poor environments (sandy banks) which makes it an ideal shrub for shoreline recovery.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/lacmercier.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Rives2-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium (FR)<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>Since Summer 2012, there has been a remarkable re-growth of vegetation\u00a0along the shoreline.<\/p>\r\n<p>Efforts at reforestation are quite visible on most lakefront properties.<\/p>\r\n<p>According to the Quebec Court of appeal, municipalities can oblige landowners to restore the shoreline to it\u2019s natural state.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: :<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Lac Mercier is especially vulnerable, because more than 50% of it&#8217;s shoreline lies adjacent to the linear park.<\/p>\r\n<p><a the lake and development in the watershed<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Several housing projects have gradually altered the appearance of the watershed of lac Mercier.<\/p>\r\n<p><a clientele in a very desirable sector, \u00a0we support the new City regulation prohibiting short-term ( less than 31 days) tourist residences\u00a0 along the shoreline of lac Mercier.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" <\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong>Construction in the lake\u2019s protected zone:<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>The City of Mont-Tremblant has recently modified the regulations relating to minor variances, so that all construction in the protected zone of the lake is prohibited.
